Appearance: Verin has light chestnut hair that approximately falls to her chest. She has dark blue eyes that hold a serene look to them, making her appear much older and sometimes wiser than she really is. Verin has had many men admire her chest, although she doesn't care. The archmage is taller than most women, however she is shorter than most men. Verin has a fantastic complexion, and her skin is slightly tanned.
Apparel: Normally you would see the archmage wearing the the traditional robes, however that is not the case with Verin. Her normal attire consists of many different varied robes, sometimes even including the traditional archmage robes. However, her favorite robe is colored sky blue that is laced with red on the cuffs. She also carries a golden chain with her everywhere, which is a very touchy topic for her.
Weapons/Items: Mages staff, she also has some potions of healing and those of restoring fatigued magicka as well.
Personality: Verin on the exterior is very calm and serene, however deep inside of her there is a burning rage. Her years of being a mage have taught her how to control herself, which she has applied to her own well being. As a young child she had not been able to control her own anger, but after her years of training she has learned to control it. Although if something were to make her very upset she would be able to unleash her temper in a strange form of magic rarely that she is still trying to discover. Even through all of this she never had problems making friends, or being nice. She was just one of those girls you really don't want to make angry.
History: Verin was brought into life in the city of Anvil where she would spend most of her early life, with the occasional trip to Kvatch. That is before it was destroyed by Daedra. One of her favorite activities as a young child was to watch the sea and the boats in it. She loved it in Anvil as a child and repeatedly said how much she wanted to stay there forever. This would not be in her future however.
She was barely fifteen, and life was great for her. She would stare at the sea almost everyday, while she was watching the sea up on the hills she was always under someone's watch. One day, she decided she could go out on her own... And of course since she was not allowed to do this she told no one. This is how she met Ventus, an Imperial. Ventus was training to be a guard at this time, so he was fit, but not overly strong yet. When Verin went 'missing' Ventus was sent to go find her. Ventus went up the hills surrounding Anvil when he found poor Verin hurt.
“What's wrong?” Ventus asked.
“I hurt my leg, I can't move.”
“I'll carry you back then.” He said with a assuring smile. Verin looked at him and smiled back.
As he carried her home the sky had begun to darken, and the moon was creeping up. Ventus quickened his pace, Verin felt pains as he quickened, but was too grateful as it was to say anything to him. When she directed Ventus to her house, he brought her in. Her father took her from Ventus' hands, and thanked him. Verin's parents never learned of what she had done that day, accepting the fact that she had fallen on a rock and hurt herself, while Ventus had been traveling with her.
The next day Ventus returned. He asked Verin's father if he could go see her, which her father gratefully replied yes. Verin was sleeping as Ventus approached, but she stirred at the sound of footsteps. Verin had not realized that she had even fallen asleep when she saw Ventus. “Hey, I don't have much time today, but maybe tomorrow we can go look at the ocean.” What was he saying? That he would stare at the ocean with her?
So as it was arranged, Verin and Ventus went to the hills and looked out into the ocean. “Verin, I have the feeling one day you are going to save many people.”
“Yeah, why?”
“Here, would you place your hand on my wound please?” As it is never polite to demand a women to do something.
“Uh sure. EWW it feels gross, wait why is my hand glowing?” She said looking down at the light blue aura glowing on her hand and on Ventus' wound.
“Hahaha, you don't know? That is restoration magic I knew it! I could sense it yesterday, Verin you do know you broke your leg right?”
“Then how am I walking today?”
“Because you used your own magic subconsciously to heal your own wound!”
“I'll trust you for now.” She said with a smile.
For the next five years they became good friends. They would do anything for each other, and sometimes they did more than the other wanted them to do. Although through all of this they just became better friends. Five years after their first encounter, Ventus was stationed at Kvatch.
So the two left for Kvatch. Upon entering the town the first time Ventus gave Verin a small gold chain. “I had this enchanted so that if I ever lose you, that you'll know where to find me.” Not too long after however, came the monstrous creatures from Oblivion. Verin fled from the town, where she helped many of the other fugitives with their injuries. She also helped some of the guards, which is how she learned her abilities in Destruction magicka.
“Surely if you can heal us, you must have some sort of Destruction ability. Focus on a fireball or something, at least thats what I heard mages do to make their magicka work, so I wouldn't know...” The soldier said awkwardly.
Verin focused a fireball where she narrowly avoided hitting a tree. “We could use some mage help in defending the gate. Give us a day, and you are free to leave.”
Verin did indeed leave the next day. Turns out the Kvatch mage's guild leader had died in the siege of Kvatch. Verin left dissatisfied in her magicka abilities, and as such took comfort in returning to Anvil. She never heard of what had happened to Ventus that day in Kvatch. She assumed him dead as the golden chain indicated no reply, but she did not know how it worked on his end. She held onto this belief for five years before she accepted him to be dead.
At first Verin had a hard time understanding some of the concepts of the other schools of magicka other than Restiration, but eventually her teacher's found the way she learned best. She had to be put into a situation where she needed new spells to survive to learn new spells. It was an uncommon phenomena, and it baffled many of her superiors.
The way they first learned this was when an Argonian teacher was trying to teach her how to breath in the water. She tried to use the spell the Argonian taught her, but she could not breath freely under water when she tried. Then something snagged her leg and she could not go up! She felt something inside her unlock, hooping for the best she thought on the spell that she seemingly had just come up with, and suddenly she was breathing again. When the Argonian came down to find her, he untied her and carried her to the top of the water.
"I did it!" She then explained the process to her teacher, who seemed confused still. They tried it with other spells, she could only learn spells by teaching herself. They tried other tests, such as summoning Daedra (although she didn't know they summoned them) and put her into dangerous situations against them. She was fighting a Flame Atronarch unarmed, and she only knew Fireball. Suddenly a new spell became apparent to her, she tried it and shot lightning at the frightening foe. One of her teachers had been standing nearby and recorded her time, it had taken her less than a minute to adapt to a situation. The man presumed that if they would ever need a new Archmage she would be it.
Time went by and she trained for many years, with more spells becoming easier for her to use. And discovering some of which many had never seen before. She was now twenty four, ready to face the world moving from the comfort of a mage's guild, so that she could become higher ranked.
Her first quest was to bring back a sword that was dubbed The Sword of the Ancient Mages. She traversed through the cave it was supposedly resting in and found it. The sword however was stuck in the ground. She touched it and words entered her mind that were not her own. Only a mage can obtain me, don't even try if you are not a mage
Verin realized she would more than likely need a spell to obtain the sword, so she touched it again. Her natural unlocking process made the spell that would allow her to wield the sword, or at least grab it out of its prison. The sword started to glow deep red, and it became very hot. So obviously Verin dropped it. After it stopped sizzling she grabbed it again, and this time nothing happened. However, apparently the sword had turned itself to stone. Another magic burst and she found a spell that made it lighter. She traveled back to Anvil with the Sword of the Ancient Mages. The man who had given her the quest took it, and gave her his mark of approval for becoming a part of the Mage's Guild. He gave her another quest, this one simpler. She was to find another ancient item.
This time she was to find a ring. This ring supposedly worked in sync with the sword. Made the sword something other than stone, and actually usable. She entered a cave that was hidden deep in the sea surrounding Anvil, she had no clue how this man would know how to find this cave, but he apparently had several ancient maps that pointed out the location of these items. She entered the deep sea cave.
Inside was a pedestal and not much else. On the pedestal was the ring she needed, but things are never as simple as they appear. The cave collapsed behind her, and the cave opened up a set of stairs. This would be her first entanglement with the necromancers.
She entered the stairwell, assuming that to be the only way out now and saw horrid creations coming for her. Creatures made from rotten flesh of humans. She burnt the creatures with a fireball, which instantly she regretted when smelling the rotten flesh burn. She made her way through the hoard of the creatures that had been trying to kill her. She walked further up the hill she assumed would take her out of the cave. She found a collection of odd soul gems. They were black as night, she assumed them to be connected to the hoard of zombies she had just killed. Even though this was her first encounter with necromancers, she did not see any that day. The cave opened up onto a small island, more like a piece of land than anything though. In the distance she could see Anvil. She began her journey back.
Upon showing the items to her guild leader, and explaining what had happened she was given a horse and told to go straight to the Imperial City where she would explain the case to the Arcane University and look more into the Items of the Ancient Mages to make sure that the man was not connected to the necromancy that had been going on recently.
Verin saw for the first time in her life beauty outside of the sea. It captivated her, but she still felt something special with the sea. Verin was sad when she saw the impressive Imperial City appear. It was surrounded by beauty, but that was not why she was there. She was there to report necromancers off the coast. The truth was unsettling, but it had to be dealt with. And she was the only one with first hand experience.
With the hep of some guards she found the Arcane University. She took a step inside. She gasped as she looked at the interior of the grand tower. The man known as Raminus Polus came to her. He asked her what she was doing there, where she revealed all she had learned off the coast of Anvil. Raminus nodded and then made a decision. He beckoned for her to follow him.
They went through a teleporter and suddenly they were in the Council chamber's. The Archmage stood before Verin, in all his splendor. Verin revealed all she had learned once more. The Archmage nodded seemingly unsurprised by all Verin had revealed. She was there that day not only accepted into the Arcane University, but was also given her staff and advancing to the rank of Evoker.
Verin soon went to work studying artifacts. She found a dusty old tome deep in the libraries one day. In it revealed three items of dark sorcery to be used to amplify Necromancy, the Items of the Anicent Mage's. She held one of them in her possession, but the man held the other. She would have to tell the Archmage right away, but first she studied what the third item was. The book was smudged and written rather illegibly, but she had managed this far, she just needed the last item.
The pages revealing all three were gone! And so were the maps that had been given with them. A necromancer had planned this be found during the time that necromancy hadn't been banned, but that could not be now. So whoever the man had been, he was a necromancer. Or at the very least was interested in items that were deeply connected to necromancy.
Verin wished to not disturb the Archmage, so she left the book in the care of Raminus Polus, who commended her for her hard work. He took the book, and she left the main tower for the time being. As she stepped outside she pulled out the golden chain she carried with her everyday. She looked at it deeply and shook her head. She knew he was gone, but she couldn't help but feel he couldn't be. She shook off her denial and went to go sleep.
Raminus Polus woke her up. He only trusted Verin with the job he was going to give her.He sent Verin to the bruma's mage's guild, as Traven had not heard from the usually annoying guildmaster recently. He was worried, and so he asked Raminus to help, but unfortunately he was too busy, so he asked Verin to go in his stead.
She went to the snowy outskirts of Bruma, frequently complaining about the lack of clothes she was wearing. She knew it was her own fault, but she still blamed Raminus in her frozen cold temper. She finally arrived at the gates of Bruma. Leaving her horse at the stables she walked into the city. She walked into the mage's guild and her face showed utter disbelief.
Everything was on fire, and undead were everywhere. Instead of trying to fight them all on her own she recruited the help of some guards, and some of the Fighter's guild in the vain hope that they would believe her lie of how the undead would go for the others in the city as well. Apparently it worked as they joined in on her fight. They cleared their way through the burning bookcases and hallways full of undead. They finally made it to the upstairs that had been blocked off earlier.
A poor Khajiit who had drained all of his magicka shortly before they made it in was killed by the apparent leader of the raid. Shortly there after, Verin felt magic unlocking in herself and she picked up a sword in the room and flung it into the stomach of the necromancer. The poor women stood no chance at the power sword being impaled through her. She fell to the floor, Verin searched for clues on the attack but sadly any clue of the attack was probably left with the Khajiit.
She returned this news to the Archmage herself. She was instantly moved up to the level of Master Wizard. She continued on her life for about a year before she would have the fateful day where she would become the new Archmage.
Verin, awoke to do her normal duties up in the Council chamber. She found a note with an enormous black soul gem, like the ones necromancers had been using for their rituals. She was left with only the information that she was to be the new Archmage. She assumed on the responsibility of dealing with necromancer's which continues to do this day, but also has the important work of helping Cyrodiil rebuild. Starting with rebuilding the Kvatch Mage's guild and Bruma's guild. She would also start to find a way to deal with the evr growing issue of Necromancy.
